SUBSTANCE ABUSE

Somerset Heart Health commits to prevent and reduce substance abuse and related problems by providing leadership, education and support to communities and institutions throughout Somerset County by:
  • Reducing Underage Drinking and Drug Abuse
  • Reduce youth exposure to alcohol advertising
  • Reduce youth access to alcohol
  • Increase law enforcement to deter adults from furnishing alcohol for minors
  • Responsible Retailing with RBS trainings, compliance checks, merchant/police partnerships, implementing the Card ME Program, and polices restricting alcohol at community events.
  • Mobilize communities to change policies and practices at the local level
  • CMCA - use community organizing and media advocacy to create changes in local policies and practices to reduce youth access to alcohol.
  • School Substance Abuse Policy Guide to assist schools in reviewing, revising, communicating, and enforcing a comprehensive substance abuse policy.
  • Making your workplace Drug-Free – with the work alert program.
  • Prescription Monitoring Program – a health care tool providing coordination with prescribers, dispensers, licensing boards, OSA staff, and law enforcement.
  • YAP – Youth Advocacy Program – youth advocating for positive change through school and community efforts to reduce the use and misuse of alcohol and other drugs. YAP is connected to MYAN – the Maine Youth Action Network.
