ABOUT US
Originally Somerset Heart Health was developed in 1998 by a group of caring individuals from Redington-Fairview General Hospital and other local community health care providers. We were formerly known as the Somerset County  Cardiovascular Health Task Force.

"The reality is that the issues around cardiovascular health are simply issues of health in general. Exercise, care about diet, avoidance of smoking, and strategies for handling stress make us happier and more contented human beings. This is a more inclusive way to think about health."

Roger Renfrew M.D.
"As we watch coworkers move through their years of service at Madison Paper and on into retirement, we realize the importance of the quality of life. A sound cardiovascular system is such an important element in ensuring that quality of life. By paying attention to diet and exercise and reducing risk factors such as smoking and high blood pressure, employees increase their chances of having a productive career and a full and enjoyable retirement."

2001 to 2006 we were one of 31 Healthy Maine Partnership sites whose funding is provided with tobacco settlement money from the Fund for a Healthy Maine, through the Partnership For A Tobacco-Free Maine, Bureau of Health, Department of Human Services. As part of the state of Maine movement to create the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention we became one of 8 public health regions in the state of Maine. Our district is District 5 which covers Kennebec and Somerset Counties.
Our Service Area Consists of the towns of Anson, Athens, Bingham, Wyman Dam, Canaan, Caratunk, Cornville, Embden, Harmony, Jackman, Madison, Mercer, Moscow, North New Portland, New Portland, Norridgewock, North Anson, Skowhegan, Smithfield, Solon, Starks, West Forks, and Unorganized territories of Somerset County.
Our coalition is now called the Greater Somerset Public Health Collaborative and Somerset Heart Health is the task force that works with communities, schools, healthcare services, work sites, and recreation centers to help promote increased physical activity, improved nutrition, tobacco-free and drug-free living.
